A student driving in the junior parking lot at Mary Persons High School in Forsyth struck a teacher at 2:57 p.m. Tuesday during afternoon dismissal, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said. The teacher was alert and conscious with leg pain and was taken to a hospital in the area, and Monroe County Schools said the injuries are not life threatening. A 19-year-old passenger in a GMC pickup truck died after the truck and a Georgia State Patrol patrol car collided at about 2:30 a.m. Monday at Mountain Industrial Boulevard and Hugh Howell Road in DeKalb County. The state patrol identified him as Anthony Angeles. Troopers had been called out over illegal stunt driving nearby.

Bates Road Accident in Burke County, GA: Chase Ends in Rollover Near Clark’s Place Road, Driver Arrested

A Burke County sheriff’s deputy tried to stop a speeding vehicle on Bates Road on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 5, 2026. The driver did not stop, a pursuit followed, and the vehicle overturned in the 300 block, near Clark’s Place Road. Deputies took the driver into custody and the sheriff’s office listed six items against the driver, among them felony fleeing and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. The driver has not been publicly identified, and Bates Road was closed while crews worked the scene.

Buford Highway Train Accident Near Bankers Industrial Drive Kills One in Gwinnett County, GA

A person was struck and killed by a Norfolk Southern train on Bankers Industrial Drive, just off Buford Highway in unincorporated Gwinnett County, shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026. Gwinnett County police said the person was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been publicly identified. Paulding County Plane Crash Near Hulseytown Road: Student Pilot, 18, and Flight Instructor, 22, Critically Injured Near Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport

A single-engine plane went down in woods off Hulseytown Road on the western side of Paulding County on Thursday night, Sept. 3, 2026, within a mile of Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport. An 18-year-old student pilot and his 22-year-old flight instructor were critically injured. The two men called 911 from the wreckage themselves and gave rescuers a rough location; Sheriff Ashley Henson said they were about a quarter of a mile into the woods. The FAA and NTSB were notified and no cause has been released.

Atlanta police recruit Moses Russ, 24, was killed Tuesday morning while riding his motorcycle to academy training when he was involved in an accident at Moreland Avenue and McDonough Boulevard in southeast Atlanta. Mayor Andre Dickens and Police Chief Darin Schierbaum identified him at a news conference. A second vehicle was involved; that driver was not hurt and has not been identified, and no one has been charged.

Macon Road Accident in Upatoi, Columbus: Beunkus Shanequa Collins, 33, Killed as a Pedestrian in Muscogee County

A woman on foot was hit by a vehicle and killed in the 13300 block of Macon Road in the Upatoi community of Columbus early on Monday, Aug. 31, 2026. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified her as Beunkus Shanequa Collins, 33, said she was struck accidentally and suffered blunt force trauma, and said she was pronounced dead at 5:49 a.m. All eastbound lanes were shut down Monday morning while the Columbus Police Department's Motor Squad worked the scene. Police said no charges are pending.

GA 400 Southbound Exit 5 Closed in Sandy Springs, Fulton County GA — Temporary Exits 5-A and 5-B Open to Abernathy Road, Hammond Drive and the North Springs MARTA Station

The Georgia Department of Transportation took the southbound Exit 5 ramp on GA 400 in Sandy Springs out of service on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, and opened two temporary ramps in its place. Exit 5-B serves the North Springs MARTA station about 0.6 miles south of the old ramp; Exit 5-A serves Abernathy Road and Hammond Drive about 1.1 miles south. Monday, Aug. 31 is the first weekday commute under the new configuration. GDOT spokesperson Joe Schulman said the temporary ramps could stay up to two years. It is planned construction for the SR 400 Express Lanes project, not an accident.

Willie H. Smith Jr., 78, was killed Thursday morning, Aug. 27, 2026, after the Chevrolet Equinox he was driving east on Waverland Drive in Macon left the road at the Woodland Drive intersection and struck the roof of a house in the 1900 block of Woodland Drive, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said. Woodstock Elementary School Bus Accident at Highway 92 and Main Street in Woodstock, GA: Minivan Driver Killed, 2 Students Report Minor Injuries

The driver of a minivan died after hitting the back of a Cherokee County School District bus on Main Street at the Highway 92 intersection in Woodstock early Tuesday, Woodstock police said. The bus was stopped at a red light. Two students on the bus were treated for minor injuries, and all 20 students and the bus driver are safe.

Highway 144 Accident, Richmond Hill GA: Silverado Hits Bryan County School Bus at Ford Avenue and Cherry Street, 4 Children Hospitalized

Georgia State Patrol says a Mercedes SUV changing lanes on Highway 144 struck a Chevrolet Silverado, which lost control and hit the rear of a Bryan County school bus carrying 41 students about 3:47 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2026. Eight children reported injuries and four were taken to Memorial Children's Hospital of Savannah; the Silverado driver was also hospitalized. A tractor-trailer caught fire on Interstate 85 northbound at the State Route 211 exit in Gwinnett County, Georgia, on Monday afternoon, near mile marker 124, and every northbound lane went down with it. I-75 Accident at Cleveland Avenue in Atlanta, GA: Woman, 23, Killed in Hit-and-Run; Driver Sought

Jaquelin Telesforo Vazquez, 23, was killed on I-75 northbound near Cleveland Avenue SW in Atlanta about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23. Police said she had stopped her disabled Acura on the left shoulder and gotten out when a Volkswagen Tiguan struck the car and struck her. The Volkswagen's driver left the scene on foot and is not in custody. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified her.

Tractor Driver Killed in Train Accident on Goodwin Road at U.S. Highway 19: Jose Aguilar, 38, of Montezuma Identified, Lee County, GA

The Georgia Department of Public Safety on Thursday identified the farm tractor driver killed at a railroad crossing on Goodwin Road in Lee County, near U.S. Highway 19, as Jose Aguilar, 38, of Montezuma. Troopers were called to the scene at 7:14 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. The Georgia State Patrol says the westbound tractor reached the crossing as a northbound Norfolk Southern train came through; the impact split the tractor in two and ejected Aguilar, and the Lee County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene. The investigation is active and the findings are preliminary.

School Bus Accident on the Athens Perimeter Outer Loop Between Chase Street and Prince Avenue, Athens, GA — Car Driver Hospitalized, No Students Injured

A car and a Clarke County Schools bus collided on the Athens Perimeter at about 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026, Classic City News reported, placing it on the highway's outer loop between Chase Street and Prince Avenue. WSB-TV placed the same accident near the Jefferson Road exit and reported that the car became trapped under the back of the bus. Athens-Clarke County Fire responded. Augusta, GA Officer-Involved Shooting on Tybee Court: Donte Godwin, 35, Arrested After Lovers Lane Search in Richmond County

Donte Godwin, 35, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office announced Friday evening, Sept. 4, 2026. Deputies were called to the 100 block of Tybee Court in Augusta about 6:03 p.m. Thursday on an assault complaint, and Sheriff Eugene Brantley said Godwin got out of a vehicle with a 12-gauge shotgun and fired at least one shot at a deputy, who returned fire. No deputies were injured. Lovers Lane was shut in both directions during the overnight search. Godwin is charged, not convicted.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the man wounded when a Hinesville police officer fired outside Frozen Paradise Bar & Grill, in the 800 block of Elma G. Miles Parkway, early Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, as Cashane Cadeem Calder, 31, of Hinesville. A Fort Stewart Public Affairs Office spokesperson said Calder is a specialist and motor transport operator with the 3rd Infantry Division. He was hospitalized in stable but critical condition and has not been charged. Two Hinesville officers were working off duty when a fight broke out around 1:50 a.m., the GBI said. The findings go to the Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.

Savannah GA Shooting: 2 Men Dead on East Anderson Street After Standoff

Savannah Police officers found a wounded man outside a home in the 600 block of East Anderson Street on Thursday afternoon and a second man barricaded himself inside. The wounded man died at a hospital, and the barricaded man was found dead after SWAT officers entered. Chief Lenny Gunther said the case is being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide. Federal agents have made a second arrest in the mass shooting that killed one man and wounded ten people in the 300 block of Edgewood Avenue, in Atlanta's Sweet Auburn district, on July 28, 2025. FBI Atlanta announced on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026 that its Violent Crime Task Force took Nasir Williams into custody; he faces a murder count and ten counts of aggravated assault, with the Atlanta Police Department and the Sandy Springs Police Department assisting. Santos J. Wyatt, 27, was killed and an 18-year-old male was seriously injured in the shooting, which police say began when three men and one woman walked up to a crowd near the streetcar stop and opened fire. Rico T. Arnold, 19, was arrested weeks after the shooting at a Clayton County traffic stop. FBI Atlanta says a third person remains at large. Williams has been charged and has not been convicted.

Two Former Reynolds Police Officers Charged After Armory Street Domestic Dispute in Taylor County, GA

Two former Reynolds Police Department officers have been charged in connection with a domestic dispute at a home on Armory Street in Reynolds, Taylor County, Georgia, on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026. Landon E. Aldridge, 23, is charged with hindering a 911 call, and Christopher K. Boyt, 36, is charged with violation of oath of office over a duty the department says he neglected on a call for service. Aldridge had resigned before the Aug. 22 incident and Boyt resigned while under investigation, so neither still works for the department. Incident reports released Tuesday night place the dispute between 7:57 p.m. and 9:11 p.m. and show no arrest logged at the scene, with a warrant indicated in Boyt's case. Both were taken to a hospital. Officers were called about 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17, 2026. Police named Loren Tademy, 28, as the suspect and said the Chatham County Sheriff's Office located and arrested him in Savannah. Tademy is charged with felony murder and aggravated assault, along with a theft by taking count and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is charged, not convicted. Detectives have not confirmed a motive but say they believe narcotics were involved.

Kenneth Spruill Arrested in Hapeville, GA: Tennessee Attempted Murder Suspect Captured in Fulton County

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that task force officers arrested Kenneth Spruill in the City of Hapeville, Fulton County, GA. Officers from the sheriff's office, the Roswell Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service took him into custody without incident after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation asked Roswell police for help locating him. Spruill is wanted in Tennessee on charges including attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated burglary, especially aggravated robbery and theft of property, and was also wanted in Fulton County over a firearm-possession probation matter. Atlanta News First reported that Tennessee officials tied the charges to a 2023 home invasion and attempted murder and that he was added to that state's most wanted list in July. Atlanta Fire Rescue Department crews were called to the 600 block of North Avenue NW in northwest Atlanta, a short distance from the Georgia Tech campus, around 9:20 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, and found heavy fire on the front and right sides of a one-story wood-frame home that had already reached the attic. The resident and a 5-year-old child got out. Firefighters rescued one cat along with several chickens and several ducks from a small farm area behind the house; a second cat is still unaccounted for. The homeowner told firefighters she believes a cat knocked over a heater kept for a turtle, but investigators were called to establish the official cause and the fire remains under investigation.
