Highway 20 Accident at Service Road: Connor Smith, 27, of Cartersville Killed on a Motorcycle

A Dodge Journey turning left from Service Road entered the path of Smith's westbound Honda CBR650R just before 1 a.m. Saturday. He died at the scene. Georgia State Patrol has described the movements of both vehicles and has not stated a cause.

Connor Smith, 27, of Cartersville was killed early Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, at the intersection of Highway 20 and Service Road in Bartow County.

Smith was riding a Honda CBR650R motorcycle west on Highway 20 in the left lane, according to WBHF Radio in Cartersville, which attributed its account to Georgia State Patrol.

A Dodge Journey traveling south on Service Road attempted to turn left onto Highway 20. WBHF reported that the Journey "entered the motorcycle's path and was struck in the driver's side by the motorcycle."

Smith died at the scene. He is the only person who died in this accident.

Where the accident happened

The location given by every outlet is the same and is not more specific than the intersection itself: Highway 20 at Service Road, Bartow County. The Daily Tribune News used the state designation, State Route 20, for the same road.

No outlet we reviewed gives a mile marker, a direction and distance from Cartersville, or a nearer landmark. We are not going to estimate one. If you are trying to place this on a map, the intersection name is the whole of what has been released.

Highway 20 is a separate road from the US 41 corridor that runs north and south through Bartow County. Nothing about this accident happened on Highway 41 or Joe Frank Harris Parkway.

The accident happened in the first hour of Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026.

WBHF Radio put it at about 12:52 a.m. The Daily Tribune News reported about 12:50 a.m.

Two minutes is ordinary variation between a preliminary account and a later one, and neither outlet claims precision beyond "about." We publish both rather than pick one and present it as settled.

Who was killed

The person killed was Connor Smith, 27, of Cartersville, Georgia. He was the rider of the motorcycle.

The Daily Tribune News reported that Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton handled the official identification. That is a separate office from Georgia State Patrol, which investigated the accident itself.

Per WBHF Radio, attributing Georgia State Patrol: the Journey was southbound on Service Road, attempted a left turn onto Highway 20, entered the path of the westbound motorcycle in the left lane, and was struck in the driver's side by the motorcycle.

Who else was hurt

The Journey's female driver and a child passenger were taken to Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center with minor injuries, WBHF Radio reported. My K Country and the Daily Tribune News describe the same two people and the same minor injuries.

Neither has been publicly identified. No outlet gives the child's age. We have not seen either identity in any report, and we are not going to guess at them.

What has not been said about cause or fault

This is the part most easily misread, so we will state it plainly.
