What happened at Jackson County Schools on Friday?
Every school in the Jackson County School System is closed Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, after multiple campuses received bomb threats overnight.
The district pushed back the start of the school day first, then called the whole day off at about 8 a.m., WSB-TV reported.
"This morning multiple schools received an anonymous computer generated bomb threat. Authorities were notified and an investigation commenced. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is working through a deliberate process of clearing our school buildings," the district said in a statement carried by Main Street News.
The district explained the cancellation this way: "Given the magnitude of the investigation and the length of time it will take to clear the impacted buildings, we have made the decision to cancel school for today, Friday, Aug. 14, 2026."
Earlier, families had been told only that the morning would start late. "Due to this, we will be delaying the start of school until further notice, and will notify families when we have an update," the district said, according to FOX 5 Atlanta, which reported the threats arrived in the middle of the night.

Sheriff Kevin McCook described it to Atlanta News First as a threatening robocall, and said deputies are still trying to work out where it came from.
