How We Use AI

Our disclosure on artificial intelligence in the newsroom.

The short version

We use AI tools to help gather and draft. Every story is reviewed and approved by a person before it publishes. Editorial responsibility is human.

What AI does here

• Monitors public news feeds and agency releases for incidents
• Groups multiple outlets' coverage of the same incident together
• Produces a first draft in which every claim is tied to a source
• Builds maps and data graphics from the facts in the story

What AI does not do

• It does not publish anything on its own
• It does not decide whether to name a person
• It does not generate photographs of real events
• It does not write under a fake human byline — our byline is "The Local Alert Georgia Staff," which is an organizational credit, not an invented person

Accuracy

Any fact that cannot be traced to a named, linked source does not run. If we get something wrong, see our corrections policy.
