Who writes our Georgia coverage, and how.

Georgia articles carry the byline The Local Alert Georgia Staff. It is desk work, and the byline says so. We do not put an individual reporter's name on an article that person did not personally report.

Local stations and newspapers report most Georgia incidents first, in 200 to 300 words each. This desk reads every outlet covering an incident and builds one record from them. Each claim is tied to the outlet that published it, every source is re-opened and checked before anything is written, and the finished article is checked again by a separate pass that did not write it.

Where two newsrooms disagree, we show both and name which reported which. We never imply one newsroom confirmed something only another published.

Every article is stamped with the time its sources were verified. Articles are not updated automatically as an investigation develops — for the current status of an active case, contact the agency named in the article. If we publish something wrong, tell us and we correct it on the page.
