What did the City of Richmond Hill issue Monday?

The City of Richmond Hill put a boil water advisory on part of the Plantation Apartments complex on Monday. The city aimed it at customers in those buildings whose water went out or whose pressure fell, and told them to use boiled or bottled water for drinking and cooking.

It covers buildings A through G, and went up on the city's Alert Center on Aug. 24, 2026.

The city traced it to a water leak repair near the apartments, which caused a loss of pressure.

Which Plantation Apartments buildings are under the Richmond Hill boil water advisory?

That is a slice of one apartment complex in Bryan County, not a city-wide order — a portion of the complex, as WSAV reported Monday evening. Richmond Hill sits on the coast just south of Savannah, with a population the city puts at nearly 17,000.

Inside those buildings, the city aimed the advisory at customers whose water went out or whose pressure fell.

What caused the Richmond Hill boil water advisory?

A water leak repair carried out near Plantation Apartments, the city said.

When the pressure went, the supply into those buildings was disrupted and pressure in parts of the water system fell to very low levels. The advisory followed.

The city said it was acting out of an abundance of caution, and that a health hazard may exist because of microbial contamination in the areas left without positive pressure.

Why does a loss of pressure trigger a boil water advisory?

Pressure is the line the city drew around this advisory. The hazard it named is confined to the areas that lost positive pressure, and it addressed customers who lost water or saw their pressure drop.

That is why it covers a handful of buildings instead of the whole town. The city said pressure fell in parts of its system, and the advisory follows those parts.

The city said testing has to clear the system first.

When does the Richmond Hill boil water advisory end, and who lifts it?

The city holds it and the city lifts it. Richmond Hill said the advisory stands until its own testing shows the risk has passed.

Richmond Hill said customers will be notified immediately once it is lifted.

That is where the rule meets this story. The cause the city gave for the advisory is a loss of pressure after a leak repair, and pressure is the thing the state sets a minimum for.

Have we covered Georgia boil water advisories before?

Twice recently, and the shape is familiar.

In Monroe County on Aug. 18, county water customers on Collier Road, Smith Road and Orchard Ridge Drive lost service around 10 a.m., and the county said a boil water advisory would cover those same customers once the break was repaired. Same logic as Richmond Hill's: the pressure went, so the precaution went on.

By Wednesday the city said the main was repaired and service was coming back, but the advisory held because the testing had not cleared. Dublin City Schools and West Laurens Middle School called off classes for a second straight day.

Dublin lifted the advisory at 5:36 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, after testing confirmed its system met safety standards, and the middle school went back to its regular schedule Friday.
