Which Monroe County roads lost water service?
Monroe County posted a notice Tuesday saying county water service was being cut on three stretches of road because of a water main break on Collier Road.
They are Collier Road, Smith Road and Orchard Ridge Drive. The county set the boundaries this way: “All county water customers on Collier Road from Ten-8 northbound to its intersection with Smith Road, Smith Road from its intersection with Collier Road to the Orchard Ridge subdivision and all county water customers on Orchard Ridge Drive will be without water beginning around 10 a.m. today for up to several hours.”
WGXA listed the same three areas Tuesday morning, attributing them to the county.
When did the water go off, and for how long?
The county put the start at around 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, and said customers in the named areas would be without water “for up to several hours.”
WGXA gave the same 10 a.m. figure and reported the disruption was expected to last several hours. No restoration time has been published.

Is a boil water advisory in effect?
The county tied the advisory to the repair, not to the outage. Once the break “has been repaired,” it said, customers on those same three stretches “will be under a Boil Water Advisory.”
WGXA reported that the county would place customers in the affected areas under a boil water advisory once service came back on.
13WMAZ headlined its Tuesday report “Monroe County water main break causing water outage, prompting boil water advisory for some areas,” and summarized it this way: “The Monroe County Board of Commissioners says that, after the repairs are complete, there will be a boil water advisory for many customers.”
No notice lifting the advisory had appeared on the county’s website as of late Tuesday morning.
Who runs the water system, and who takes the calls?
This is the Monroe County water system, not a city one. The advisory addresses county water customers, and the county’s water department office sits at 38 West Main Street in Forsyth.
The county lists 478-992-5089 for the water department, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 478-994-7010 for emergency calls outside those hours.
Day-to-day operation is contracted out. The county says its water system management firm, H2O Innovations, supervises operation and maintenance, inspects and repairs system facilities and equipment, and monitors water sources and storage tanks. It directs operations and maintenance questions to that firm at 478-994-7055, and billing questions to the county.
Jeff Dorough is listed as the county’s water system maintenance supervisor.
What we don’t know yet
- How many customers or households are covered by the outage and the advisory.
- What caused the main to break, and how large the main is.
- When the break was found, and when crews reached it.
- Whether service had been restored by midday Tuesday.
- How long the boil water advisory will run once it starts, and how the county will announce that it has ended.
- Whether any business, school or public building in the three areas was affected.
